Coffee + Writing

All Rights Reserved.

I love coffee. Mostly coffee that doesn't taste exactly like coffee, but still: I love it.  What, you ask, is that coffee sitting upon? A pregnancy wheel. You know: one of those dealie-boppers that help you calculate how far along you might be in your pregnancy based upon your LMP (last menstrual period) and calculate the estimated due date.

Yes. That was my coffee. And my pregnancy wheel. In my previous life - before moving to Myanmar - I worked in reproductive health. I calculated women's gestations all day long. I also drank coffee all day long.

In the small city I lived, there were multiple drive-through coffee shops. Even Starbucks.  YES. Drive-through.

(If you didn't know I was American before, you now do. We have drive-through everything.)

I had my favorite spots. About three or four of them. I loved one of them so much, I changed my driving route to work - making it slightly more out of my way - just so I could pick up my scrummy sugar-free, non-fat, caramel macchiato "drinkable" temperature.  I'm not kidding: I ordered the temperature of my coffee. You can do that in America. God Bless it.

I totally miss my drive-through coffee stands.

All Rights Reserved. This is actually not a drive-through coffee. It's a coffee - a very yummy one at that - from the famous Trophy Cupcakes in Wallingford (a suburb of Seattle). Their cupcakes are H-E-A-V-E-N!

Especially today, because I just knocked out the - VERY ROUGH draft, mind you - second story for what I think could be a children's picture book series.  I needed to start writing another story and I needed material for tonight's writing group.

Luckily, there are really great places to get coffee in Yangon.  I frequent them. A lot. In fact, I need to end this post now because I'm off to...

that's right....

go get some coffee!

  1. I had a patient yesterday from Yakima and I told her that she absolutely MUST get a chocolate peanut butter granita from Cruisin' Bill's. One of the many things only found at home (not even in this genius city I love so well!)

    1. Who knew?! I had NO idea that Cruisin' Bill's served coffee, let alone chocolate peanut butter granitas. Because seriously, had I known, I would have gone there. That sounds so yummy! I'll check it out next time I go home.

We should have a thread here for all the best coffee spots in Yakima!

  3. Oh Becky! The paragard pregnancy wheel, that was my FAVORITE! LMP... funny how I just put it together that this not only used to mean to me Last Menstrual Period, but will now be the title of my new profession, Licensed Massage Practitioner.

I am having a great time this morning drinking my coffee and reading your blog posts. You are inspiring and beautiful.

    1. You know what? That ParaGuard wheel could've been yours! It might've been a time that Freya was sitting at your desk. She always did: she liked the bouncy ball! Lol

So funny, the irony, that your new professional initials will be LMP! I LOVE that, actually! Totally, totally makes me smile. Kinda like a personal joke! :)

I love you, Renate + totally miss our coffee mornings at work, all of us chatting. We were very lucky to have each other. :)

      Love you!

    1. Laura - lol! I'm glad you liked "scrummy." lol I actually took that picture when I was still working at the clinic. Sadly, I don't have the pregnancy wheel!

    2. I would offer to mail you a pregnancy wheel, since I only work 2 blocks from the clinic, but I think shipping to Burma would be pretty pricey, so maybe we could draw one?

    3. You're so sweet, Laura! Well, if you ever happen to come across one, there's an easy way to send it to me. It can go to Washington, DC, and then they can mail it here. :) Jess knows the details. LOL So funny!! LOL
